Illustration Lab I

How many different ways can you illustrate a subject in a piece of art? And what does that do to the way we see or 'read' that subject?

For this project, you will choose a single subject and make and remake that image in a number of ways using a variety of illustration techniques and art media. We will be revisiting your subject and approaching it with different materials and styles throughout the semester. Ghouls, Goblins & Gore

Can you turn a picture of yourself into a Halloween-inspired spectacle?

In this 3-day Halloween hiatus project, you will take a picture of yourself with a digital camera in front of a 'green' screen. Then, using the magic of Photoshop, you will turn yourself into a scary or sweet mythical creature or being. option: You may use a picture of me, if you don't want to use a picture of yourself.

You will receive a Process Grade for this project.

• Create a layer mask and blend
• Select an area using the pen path tool and refine the edge (feather/smooth, etc.)
• Copy, paste and warp a selection to fit areas of a face
• Apply an fx layer (such as color overlay, blending options, etc.)

• Apply a layer mode (such as overlay, multiply, pin light, etc.)

See your project over the finish line. Complete the following tasks:

• Assemble your book (allow 2-3 days for cutting & pasting!)
• Complete the 'Project Reflection Worksheet'
• Photograph your book on a neutral background, no 'keystoning,' large format, no flash, no distorting angles
• Post your work to the wiki
• Create a portfolio page with your photographs (no more than 3 views; 1 large w/ 2 details or front cover with one interior shot)

Greeting Card

How can you fit your sense of style in with the needs and expectations of a real client?

For this project you will create one greeting card design for The Gallery Collection's $10,000. Scholarship Contest. We will be using your original digital photographs and/or artwork combined with work in Adobe Photoshop.
